One Room Challenge: Week 3

Hello.  Thank you for stopping by and checking in on my weekly progress over here.  I have to admit, I’m getting a little nervous now that we are on week 3.  Eek!  Half-way there and my bathroom is slowly being put back together.  No where close to adding in the pretty stuff.  The reason?  Drywall!  It is a slow and messy process!!  I am officially over the mess!

You see, when I embarked on this “small” remodel, I decided that I would remove our closet doors and put in pocket doors.  Something I have wanted to do for a long to time and figured now would be the time to do it, especially since I am putting planking on the walls.  I am a huge fan of pocket doors and the amount of space that they open up in a room, especially in a small room,  is amazing.  We have already put in a few in our house and love them.  It is messy but completely worth it in the end (I have to keep reminding myself of this).

The doors are in and where all of that drywall was removed it has now been replaced.  We are in between letting the mud dry and sanding.  Can’t wait for this step to be finished!!

The drywall has been replaced in the tub area.  We are getting close to putting the wood floors in this area.

You may recall as you enter our bathroom, the first thing you see straight ahead of you is our shower……

Since we are not replacing the shower tile or door frame, I decided to have a custom shower curtain and valance made to conceal the not-so-pretty shower and to give you something pretty to look at as you enter instead of soap scum on the bottom of the shower door (I think they call that “keeping it real”).  I am thinking of something like this….

Mine will not be split into two panels, just one and on the valance I am going to do a custom monogram in the same color thread as my band color, which is light blue.  Similar to the one below.

Here are a few of the monograms that I’m leaning towards.

Do you have a favorite?

I hope to be onto more of the “pretty stuff” next week.  Thanks for stopping by!!

I feel your dust threshold pain. Sheet rock repairs here, too. That dust gets into everything. I love pocket doors. I totally agree on how functional and practical they are. Your valance drapery treatment for the shower is going to be stunning. I’m not sure I have ever seen it on a shower…LOVE THAT IDEA! Good luck choosing a monogram, I’m no help.

I’m envious of your pocket doors, I would love to have some of those. And I love your idea about the drapery around the shower. That is going to look amazing! As for the monogram I love them all but am really drawn to number 2!

  3. The pocket doors are going to be great and worth all of the inconvenience. Love the first two monograms and the idea for the shower curtain over the glass shower door. Looking good….

I only have one pocket door, but love it! The little details that customize a room are my favorite, your monogram will be perfect, #2 is my choice!

I love the addition of the pocket door! I think my fave monogram is the Baroque but they are all beautiful and will look great straight on when you enter the room.

  11. Love it! Arabesque is my favorite- love a feminine monogram!

  12. We used pocket doors for our bathroom door and walk in closet in our bathroom remodel and it was the best idea ever.
All the monograms are very pretty, but loving the first one a little bit more than the others.

I love the first monogram for a master bath. Not too masculine but with a touch of feminine. Looking forward to seeing it all finished!

  15. I’m a big fan of pocket doors too Lauren…had some in my last house, they are really great.

That is what I hate about renovation…the stage when it looks like it will never be finished :) I love #1 or #2….both are fabulous. I need to find someone in Atlanta who does pretty monograming like that.

  19. Yes, I love the shower curtain idea. I think in a utilitarian space like a bathroom, I’d do a fancy monongram, so I like the last one best. It’s going to be so good!

  20. Hey Lauren, Sorry I’m a day late here.
I like your idea of the shower curtain & valance. My vote for the monogram is the Baroque.
I remember when we did our master bath. Since we did all the work ourselves, it took almost a year. When I think back to how I lived with that room in reno mode that whole time I shudder. NEVER AGAIN!
Six weeks will go by quickly. Hang in there. Your half way there.

  21. Pocket doors were a great idea! Projects like this make such a mess, but are so worth it. It’s going to look great!

Oooo love your idea for the curtain!! I did one with contrast banding as well. (Though I did opt for the double curtain.) I like arabesque but they are all nice.
