One Room Challenge: Week 2

Hi there, welcome back.  OK, so a lot has happened since last week.  I am in full-on, “Oh my God, what have I done?!?” mode.  You know that feeling of panic when you ask yourself “why did I do this??”  Yes, that would be me.  The bathroom is now officially torn apart but is slowly being put back together!

Last week, I mentioned our over-sized bath tub in our tiny bathroom.  For years, I have wanted to tear it out and open up the space so that I could put a piece of furniture in it’s place that would provide additional storage.  Well, it has happened. (hence, the “Oh my God, what have I done?”)

Let me start by saying that we never used the tub.  We might have used it 5 times in 7 1/2 years and it was taking up precious real estate.  What about resale?  For us, that is not an issue.  We will be in this home for the foreseeable future.  With 3 kids still in school, the youngest only in Kindergarten, this is home, so I want to do what works for us now.

Going.

Going….

Gone!!!!

The plumbing has since been capped off and pipes buried under a small patch of concrete.  If/when we sell our house, the plumbing can be tapped into and a freestanding tub can easily be put in.

Here is what I keep holding onto as I go through this process…..my inspiration board for the bathroom!!

A classic, white, timeless bathroom.

Isn’t it funny how before you start a project it seems like it’s going to be a little project, and then as soon as you get into it, you realize there is nothing little about it?!?!

Please check back next week when I share the other elements that I have planned for this space.  And don’t forget to check in on these ladies!!

  3. Oooh, I’m loving the direction you’re headed with that moodboard, Lauren! How exciting to get rid of the tub that you have been dreaming about removing for so long!

I know exactly how you feel. It’s nice to know professionals feel that way too….OMG! That is a huge amount of real estate in your bathroom. I would not worry about resale one bit. You need to live in your home in a way that works for your family. I just pinned that inspiration board. Love it!

  5. Resale? HA! Your resale value will go through the roof with the new bathroom. Gorgeous plans.

I’m having those very same feelings this week as well. What have I agreed to?! :) I’m just trusting that it will all come together. I think you made a smart choice with the tub.

  16. It must feel so good to have that tub gone! Youve made so much progress in just 1 week, I cant wait to see what you have done next week now :)

  17. Wow, what a difference already Lauren. I bet it felt so good to get that tub out of there! Woohoo!!

  18. You have your work cut out for you! And I think you’re smart to make your home work for how you’re living in it now. Who knows what will be on everyone’s wish-list when you’re ready to sell. White bathrooms are the best.

You go Lauren!!! I say make that bathroom just how you want it…..and taking out the tub was a great idea. I think those garden tubs are dated anyway and I can not imagine anyone would want to re-install it. Especially after you work your magic.

I can’t tell you how many big tubs we’ve torn out. People don’t use big tubs, they use small tubs, or no tubs at all. Good for you for creating a space that works for you! Love the scheme.

  22. Oh my! Congrats – you’ve been wanting to do that for so long! I can not wait to see the end results, and all the steps along the way…

  23. P.S. Gotta ask, what’s Daddy B’s opinion on this one??
    ;)

Way to go Lauren … Your inspiration board is beautiful and I agree … do what YOU need now … most likely those looking to buy later will want the same thing you do!! xo

A girl after my own heart! My bathroom is torn apart right now, as well, and I’m slowly putting it back together. We put wood paneling up on the walls, but we still have a long way to go!

Nice! As for timeless and classic- I love it! WE too have hardly used our tub, I would tear it out as well if it were my home! Can’t wait to see the bathroom unfold.

  27. The inspiration board is beautiful! Your bathroom is going to be too!
