Finding your design style

I wanted to let you in on which twin bed inspiration room my client liked.  She chose room #3!

We have the selected the fabrics and the fun is just starting!

I loved reading through your comments from that post and a few of you said that room #4 “screamed Lauren”….which made me laugh and also realize that you guys can probably recognize my design style better than I can!   In my mind, my design style is a hodge-podge of different styles….not to mention, what I like changes quite frequently.

Here is room #4 that a few of you thought looked like “me”.

This got me thinking…..what is my design style?  Can you describe your design style?  Have you ever grouped together your favorite images, maybe created a pinterest board of your favorite spaces?  Have you found a common thread in the rooms that you like?  It’s definitely harder to put your style into words or categorize it.  It’s much easier to let the images do the talking.  So I decided to do just that.

So what does this say?  I like white spaces, touches of black,  and I definitely like blue!

This was a fun little exercise…you should try it, too!  Tell me, what is your design style and what common threads did you find?

  1. Love this post! It inspired me to blog about my own design style this morning. (http://lilacsandlonghorns.blogspot.com/2012/11/defining-my-design-style.html)

As always, your pictures (and blog) are beautiful and inspirational!

  2. I think most people like a mix of styles. People don’t buy “sets” of furniture anymore. (Except for my husband’s bachelor friends)

But if I had to describe my style in 1 word it would be Classic. I know how I want my home to feel. Cozy, comfortable, relaxed, layered. When I buy pieces for my home, they need to be things that I won’t tire of or look dated in a few years. I’ve always liked a mix of patterns in my rooms. I like Vintage, Nantuckett, Farmhouse, & Bohemian. With a little Modern thrown in. And lots of white & blue!

Someday I hope to have a home that has the architecture to support my variety of tastes. The suburban box I live in now can only do the New Traditional. Or Classic.

I think I love all the white, too. I really like moldings and trim work. Nothing too loud, but a pop of color is good, and texture.
